Respect

RESPECT
.
This is another topic that bothers me a lot as many young
ones are fast throwing this important virtue away!
Unfortunately some older ones too are falling into this, it is
now looking old fashioned to have respect or courtesy for
older ones, age group, oneself and even ministers of God.
.
God created all people, and created them differently for
reasons and purpose we may not understand. Regardless of
how we perceive other people to be, they are God's creations,
and it God's will for us to show respect to everyone. Even the
Bible in 1Peters 2:17 says ‘Show proper respect to everyone,
love the family of believers, fear God, honor the emperor.’
.
Respect is an important component in any mutually beneficial
relationship whether it is marital, friendship, family or business.
Fortunately, you have the power to build respect by the way in
which you conduct your life and by the way you address
others. So many of us Christians overlook this topic,
unfortunately the internet has helped more persons to neglect
respect. This is not pride don’t get me wrong, let’s face the
truth, I remember a young person sending me message on one
of this social media app and started with “hey”, it took me
time to compose myself and what response to give him! Some
modernized it so to say and will call you pet names and I
wonder where they hid their respect.
.
That it is social media does not mean you can disregard the
person for the sake of God! I once saw a youth approaching an
elderly person, passing through a small gate and the older had
to wait for the younger to pass, my father my God, what
happened to her allowing the elderly one first, where is our
virtue! When you do not have respect as a single, do you think
marriage will suddenly make you respectful? NO, what you are
as single is what you carry into marriage and trust me ladies,
no man wants a woman that will not respect them.
.
It is even in the house of God, it is now common if I must say
for one to be ministering and some youths saying their
contradictory unruly comment simultaneously even distracting
others; discipline is lost. Give honour to whom honour is due,
let us together revive this dying virtue starting from you.
.
If they respect you, respect them, if they disrespect you, still
respect them. Do not allow the actions of others to decrease
your good manners, because you represent yourself, not
others. I've learned in life and business that it is not so much
what you say that counts, it is how you make people feel.
.
Respect your elders, minors, and everyone in between. There
are no boundaries or classes that define a group of people that
deserves to be respected. 'Be kindly affectionate to one
another with brotherly love, in honor giving preference to one
another;' Rom. 12:10.
